Student Solves Physics Mystery That's Stumped Scientists for a Century

A Bachelor's student at EPFL discovered why air bubbles don't appear to rise in narrow tubes, solving a 100-year-old conundrum.2 days ago
Err I think engineers have known about surface tension and friction for a while now, where have these guys been hiding🤣
I really enjoyed the part about the bubbles being covered in “a thin film of liquid”. WTF else are they supposed to be covered in?! 🙄
Today’s world problems or just too much time on their hands.
Why air bubbles don't rise in a narrow tube?Uhh, isn't that due to some surface tension, some friction from dry to wet, and low and high pressure?
Because gravity does not exist inside a vacuum.
It was an interesting read cuz I didn't know that but ya could of invested that energy else where
Duh! you only have to look at a glass of beer To work out the bubbles in the middle rise and the bubbles on the sides are stuck with friction.
Eh? That's solvable with a though t experiment?!?!
🤦 didn't know this was an issue.
What kind of cold fusion is this xd

Welcome to the world of exponential modeling and cycles we can't see.
I’ve lived through the ‘next ice-age’, survived ‘rising sea levels’ waited patiently for New York to disappear beneath the waves, made it through the hole in the ozone layer drama and didn’t even need an umbrella for ‘acid-rain’ which was gonna kill everything green - just in the last 25 years. I’m sure we will be just fine.
In Ohio, we can have a temperature swing of 50° or more in a 24 hour period. I think we're equipped to deal with 5° change either way.
I miss the old days when all the "climate scientists" had to worry about was the end of the world due to the disappearance of the Ozone Layer. Simpler times...
Haven't a clue, like most people. The planet, as we knew it, will be fucked in the next 40 yrs. I'll be long gone by then. Pity, it'll be interesting to observe.....
I assume this will increase the rate at which the oceans are gonna rise? Al Gore better start thinking about selling off his multi million dollar oceanfront property in California soon!!Yeah right. Lemme know when that happens. THEN we can all be worried about the supposed rising of the sea levels.

Albatrosses are among the most spectacular gliders of all birds, able to stay aloft in windy weather for hours without ever flapping their extremely long, narrow wings. In calm air an albatross has trouble keeping its stout body airborne and prefers to rest on the water surface. Like other oceanic birds, albatrosses drink seawater. What Are The Most Effective Pick-Up Lines For Women To Use?
www.iflscience.com
A team of scientists have explored which pick-up lines used by women work best on men. According to the small study, direct pick-up lines are most effectiv2 days ago
My favorite is: What the hell are you looking at... Works every time. 👌
I dont know "hi" usually works pretty well for me...
"hi"the mere fact that its quite seldom women approach men.. is enough to get our attention.
"Do you want to pet my kitty?" has worked for me in the past.
‘Hello’ is normally quite effective!
"I'm not vegan."
“Attractiveness was a crucial factor in getting positive reactions across the board” And there you have the whole thing in a nutshell. LoL
Would this work if ANY woman used a pick up line? If I try to flirt or even suggest I am interested, I get turned down. I suppose someone has to be an average woman or better as far as appearance goes for it to work.
With most of men even the blink of an eye would "work". Congrats to this team of scientists for its hard work completion.
"I'm easy" usually works.
I’m pretty dense so being blunt works best for me.
Lol. Most guys (maybe I am just speaking for myself) need it pretty much spelled out. Maybe a neon sign saying; "I want you" would work, but there's still a chance I would be oblivious.
Men usually have extremely sparse requirements. A pulse and a nice haircut normally usually does it 😆
Throw something in her eye judging by the photo.
They need pick up lines? I always thought “hey” worked pretty well.
What do you think about the pedestrianisation of Norwich City Centre always gets my plums pumping!
Can I treat you to a slice of pizza and a Faygo
"I swallow the lot" tends to be successful...
Why are teams (yes teams)of scientists working on this complete bs...don’t we have more pressing scientific concerns 🤔🤦♂️🥖
Is that a Smartphone in your pocket, or are you glad to see me?
"Hi" usually works with us, were easy.
I'm pretty sure that absolutely any type of positive attention towards a man is usually all it takes
What’s your favorite dinosaur . Works every time
This one usually works
Yeh don’t know who paid for that study but was a waste of time. Using models and pick up lines direct are always going to attract the most men. Rediculous study

An Engineer Explained Why That Cybertruck Vs. F-150 Tow-Off Was 'Pointless'
crafty.diply.com
Not a great demonstration of much other than marketing.3 days ago
Please we didnt need an engineer to know it was pointless. The power on a non ev vehicule must travel from the engine to the torque converter then the transfer case and the drive shaft to finally get at the differential then at the wheels. On an ev power goes direct to the wheels. So please compare apples with apples
So the F150 vs Cybertruck is a sham? Yet an F150 towing a giant train is totally amazing... Same as one pulling a Shuttle. It's always a game. It was a neat video, take it as that.
The Cybertruck is nothing but a publicity stunt until they can go more than 75-100 miles pulling the 14k lb trailer it's supposed to be able to tow.
I believe, the whole idea about the "cybertruck" is pointless, it's a hidious chemical waste thing and if i believe, only for hyping up TESLA.
It was a promotional move; the whole thing had nothing to do with the outcome, rather getting more eyes on Tesla
I've heard a rumor though that ford turned down a f450 vs cybertruck rematch though...
Luuk Christenhusz vin ie wel mooi 😁
So, the argument here is about the power train and not the entire vehicle? It takes the whole vehicle to tow or out pull in a tug of war. If the ford couldn’t gain traction to put its power to use, then that power is pointless.Besides, electric motors are pure torque. They will always produce more than internal combustion.
Put the Cyber Truck in a Truck Pull in the proper engine (power) and weight class. Lets see how it really does.
If i can afford neither of both... so, for now i should shut up.. 🤘😂✌
I'd rather have an F150!
"engineer"= ford pr

A sustainable alternative for palm oil production? A recent study in Science Advances found that oil palm crops planted in former pastures in Colombia were nearly carbon neutral. This cultivation method did not involve deforestation, a palm oil cultivation practice that has decimated rainforests and led to huge stored carbon losses in Southeast Asia. Other studies on this topic spanned shorter periods of time, but this study, for the first time, recorded soil carbon content for a period of over 50 years. isnt this a bit of a mixed message, as I understand it most of that pasture was formerly tropical forrest? and it isnt really an alternative to palm oil production, just a relocation, which I assume will lead to the need for more pasture land in Colombia? Also what do you think is going to happen to cash crop farming in south east asia?
